Ear Ache Remedy: Stop the Discomfort Now!

When we get an earache, we suffer. If a child gets an earache, everyone suffers. Finding a way to prevent and to relieve even the worse of earaches is extremely important.

First, it is important to realize there are many causes of an earache. Someone can be treated at home; some require medication provided by a physician. If you do not know what is causing an earache, it is important to visit your physician.

Causes of a common earache:
• colds
• changes in air pressure in a plane
• infection of the middle ear
• sinus infections
• allergies
• something stuck in the ear
• buildup of ear wax or fluid
• ear injuries
• teeth problems

How can you prevent earaches or infection?
• Do not put things in your ear… even a cotton swab, finger, or bobby pin. Seriously, you can do significant damage by putting anything in your ear. Worse yet, you could get something stuck!
• Avoid smoky environments. This does not just mean cigarette smoke. Even the hazy smoke outside in some congested areas can increase your chance of infection.
• If you are going to go swimming, try wearing simple earplugs to keep water out of your ears.

How can you treat earaches at home?
• A simple warm washcloth on the ear can bring a lot of relief.
• Chewing gum can often help especially if you have an earache because of pressure changes.
• Try yawning. You would be surprised at the power of a yawn.

• Try popping your ears. I like to hold my nose closed and gently blow. This will often get my ears to pop.
• Take a hot bath or shower. The steam will actually help with breaking up some of that earwax buildup.
