Health Insurance: Losing Your Job

“According to recent statistics, about 46 million Americans are going without health insurance coverage.” With the economy in constant flux, many people are finding themselves looking for work after losing a job. Unfortunately, when people lose their job they often find themselves losing much needed health insurance.

Within the United States, there is no universal health coverage. This leaves unemployed people without insurance for months depending on how long it takes to find a new job or career, and then waiting for the waiting period to end at the new job to regain health insurance. As you can imagine, this is a dilemma facing a copious number of individuals and families on a regular basis.

There are options that can hold you over when you are between jobs and health insurance coverage….

Short-term medical insurance provides health insurance coverage for a short period of time. This can be a viable solution that can last you anywhere from one- to twelve-months. Your health, age, and other factor will depict the monthly fee.

Catastrophic health insurance are designed to cover catastrophic incidents that may require hospitalization while in between jobs. This is generally only available to people that have few if any preexisting conditions. Catastrophic health insurance may tend to be a bit pricier than other short-term health insurance policies and you should be prepared to pay a deductible should you need hospitalization.

Local clinics can often be a lifesaver when you have a need. If you are on a tight budget, call around and ask questions. You will find you pay as you go which means you only get the coverage you need. Local clinics can be pricey, but generally, they have insurance rates and cash rates that will allow you to save money.

You too can have health insurance even if you are unemployed or between jobs.
